Sleeping under Chandeliers

The thought of my mom hanging a chandelier anywhere that isn't the dining room or entryway is absolutely laughable. I use my mom's taste as a benchmark for all things classic, so when I do a post that I know goes against her taste, I always wonder if I will regret it in ten years? On that pessimistic note, my inspiration today comes from some very special lighting ~ chandeliers! Chandeliers have moved far beyond the traditional crystal in the dining room and now can be seen in a variety of colors, shapes, designs and materials. (Just look below!)

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, I think special lighting (like a chandelier or fireplace) is the perfect way to enhance the romantic feel of your bedroom. If either of those options feel a little out of budget or maybe you need something more temporary, I would go for candles or twinkle lights.

Emerald City!

I just saw the new movie trailer for Oz and I am sooooo excited. The Wizard of Oz is one of my favorite movies of all time (original, right?) and Wicked is one of my favorite books (and plays!), so it's probably not surprising that Oz is going to be a movie I actually go see in theaters. I digress, however, from today's inspiration ~ the vibrant color of emerald! I am born in the month of May, so I have a natural predisposition towards emerald as a gemstone, but I am really loving it as an accent color in decor right now. I'm not talking earthy, mossy green accents either. I'm talking about lush and energetic green. The kind of green that would make Liz Taylor proud.  Hope you enjoy!

Not so headBORING!

I learned the hard way, when decorating my bedroom in Hilton Head, to always start with the headboard. I had originally picked out everything else and then couldn't find a headboard that looked good. The end result was that I fell in love with a headboard that didn't go with anything and had to completely start over (thank god I kept receipts!) It was significantly easier to choose the other furniture and accessories once the headboard--or the centerpiece of the room--had been settled. I chose a distressed wooden headboard, but I'm also really into fabric covered ones right now. These are some of my favorite variations on fabric headboards.

1. Try a unique shape!

2. Can you say tufting?

3. Make your own design.

4. A great place for pattern.

5. Nail heads anyone?

6. It's all in the details, think about piping.

Not your normal nightstand

Why should your bed get all the attention? Nightstands are the first thing you face when getting out of bed in the morning, which makes it the optimal place to layer your favorite pictures, books and accessories. A great lamp and fresh flowers are the ideal finishing touches to help you rise with the sun!

It's Friday! Celebrate with cozy beds

You will spend approximately 33% of your life asleep, so why not make your bed the BEST place in the house?  Bedding to me is almost an obsession, so I wanted to share some of the comfiest looking beds I've come across...Happy Friday!
